How the appeal
process works

5 simple steps to a POPLA decision

Receive your verification number

Motorists receive a verification number with their rejection notice.

The private parking operator should have sent you a 10 digit verification code with their rejection notice. You will need this before you can submit an appeal to POPLA.

Collect your evidence

Prepare any evidence which may support your case

You should be prepared to attach any evidence that you believe supports your case. This might include a crime reference number (if the vehicle was stolen), photographs (if you think the signage was inadequate), your pay and display voucher (if you say it was displayed and had not expired) or any witness statements if applicable.  It will be useful to have electronic copies of these to hand so that you can upload these during the online process.

Submit your appeal

Submit your appeal with your evidence online

The quickest and easiest way to submit your appeal and evidence is online. By using the POPLA website you will know that we have received all your documents and we will be able to start processing your appeal much quicker than those we receive by post. You will also be able to track the progress of your appeal online and you will be sent a notification when we receive a response from the parking operator.

Track the progress of your appeal

Track the progress of your appeal online

A further benefit of submitting your appeal online is that you will be able to track the progress of your case and receive notification when the parking operator responds. You will
also be notified instantly when POPLA reaches a decision.

A decision is made

POPLA independently analyses the evidence and judges the appeal

POPLA will carry out an independent assessment and base their decision on evidence provided by both the motorist and the parking operator.  Both parties will be notified of the decision. If your appeal is upheld the parking operator will be asked to cancel the parking charge notice. If your appeal is unsuccessful we will signpost you to the other options available including a link to the operator’s website where you can pay the charge.

Before you start

To start a new appeal make sure you understand the guidance, that you use your own words, that you are honest and that you submit accurate evidence to support your appeal.
